Dario Sanchez Bracero BSc & PgCert

Lecturer in Physiotherapy - Assesment lead - Admissions Tutor

Summary

I am a Lecturer in Physiotherapy with extensive clinical experience in respiratory care, including critical care, respiratory community care for the NHS, and private practice. With over two years in higher education, I focus on teaching physiotherapy in respiratory conditions within the MSc pre-registration and BSc programs. I am passionate about evidence-based practice and strive to create inclusive, engaging learning environments that empower students to become autonomous, critical, and reflective professionals.

I am particularly passionate about moving away from traditional lecturer-led lectures and embracing the teaching of the future, where students actively engage in learning within small practical groups, supported and guided by the lecturer. This approach enhances hands-on experience, fosters deeper understanding, and prepares students for real-world practice. I am committed to fostering the next generation of physiotherapists by creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment. In addition to my teaching, my research interests are centred on improving assessment and management strategies for dysfunctional breathing, aiming to enhance clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Prior to academia, I worked in various respiratory physiotherapy settings, which informs my teaching and enriches the student learning experience. I am an active member of professional organizations and continuously seek ways to improve my practice through research and staying updated on advancements in education and physiotherapy.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, going to the gym, outdoor activities, and spending quality time with my family, friends, and dog.

About

I am a Lecturer in Physiotherapy with a background as a clinical respiratory physiotherapist in critical care, respiratory community care for the NHS, and private practice. With over two years of experience in higher education, my primary areas of teaching and professional interest include physiotherapy education, evidence-based practice, and inclusive teaching strategies. I aim to create engaging and accessible learning experiences that empower students to become autonomous, critical, and reflective professionals.

My teaching focuses primarily on physiotherapy in respiratory conditions and research within the MSc pre-registration program. I am passionate about equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to manage complex respiratory conditions in both acute and community settings. I also emphasize the importance of research and evidence-based practice, ensuring that students are prepared to contribute meaningfully to advancements in the field and work autonomously.

Currently, I hold roles as Assessment Leader and Admissions Tutor, where I support the quality of assessments and the admissions process, respectively. I believe strongly in inclusive teaching and incorporate active learning methods, such as simulation-based education and flipped classrooms, to cater to the diverse needs of my students. I also apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure that my teaching is accessible to all students, including international, mature learners or those with learning disabilities.

My research interests are centred on physiotherapy care for respiratory patients, with a particular focus on dysfunctional breathing. I am committed to exploring effective assessment and management strategies for this condition, aiming to improve patient outcomes and enhance clinical practice in respiratory physiotherapy.

Prior to my academic career, I worked extensively in respiratory physiotherapy, both in critical care and community care settings, as well as in private practice in other physiotherapy specialities. This clinical experience forms the foundation of my teaching and allows me to bring real-world insights into the classroom, enriching the learning experience for students and ensuring that they are prepared for the challenges they will face as practitioners.

Outside of teaching, I am an active member of professional organizations related to physiotherapy and higher education. I am continuously seeking new ways to improve my practice, both through research and by staying informed about the latest advancements in education and physiotherapy.

In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, reading, going to the gym, engaging in outdoor activities, and spending quality time with my family, friends, and dog.
