Research

My research primarily focuses on the intersection of international business, macroeconomic complexities, and institutional challenges. I am particularly interested in the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in promoting sustainable development, especially within emerging economies. My work explores how these tools can address socio-political risks, foster resilience, and contribute to the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

My interests extend to understanding how socio-political risks influence international investment decisions and the broader implications for economic development. For example, in my conference presentation at the 50th AIB UK & Ireland Chapter Conference in 2024, I discussed ""Demystifying the Foreign Direct Investment and Socio-Political Risk Situation in the Nigerian Economy.""

Another project examines variations in terrorism and their firm-level implications for multinational enterprises (MNEs) in emerging economies, furthering the dialogue on risk management and strategy formulation in volatile regions.

One of my key research projects investigates the impact of domestic terrorism on multinational enterprises operating in foreign markets. This line of inquiry has culminated in the publication of-

Owens, M. D., & Johnson, E. (2024). Not gone away: how domestic terrorism impacts multinationals in foreign markets. Critical Perspectives on International Business.
