Summary
Dr Elysa Ioannou is a Researcher on the ENHANCE project (evaluating complications of excess weight clinics in children and young people), which is a large NIHR funded project. Dr Ioannou's research experience includes a range of qualitative methods and some basic statistical tests, while research interests include health equity, systems thinking, use of the Socio-Ecological Model and a special interest in physical activity promotion, management and reduced risk of diabetes and obesity.

Dr Elysa Ioannou is a Researcher on the ENHANCE project (evaluating complications of excess weight clinics in children and young people), which is a large NIHR funded project. She was previously a Graduate Teaching Assistant and PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University, and is a registered Associate Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition (AfN) in the UK.
She graduated with a First-Class Honour’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University and top of her Master’s class at the University of Sheffield, achieving a Distinction in Human Nutrition MSc. With a Year in Industry experience at the Leicester Diabetes Research Centre, Dr Ioannou's research interests lie with health promotion and reducing risk and/or improved management of chronic diseases through physical activity.
Her PhD focused on optimising physical activity after gestational diabetes, with a view to reducing risk of future type 2 diabetes using realist methods. Dr Ioannou has a special interest in health equity and effective health promotion and disease prevention interventions, incorporating systems thinking and a whole-systems approach.
