Emily Bargh BSc, RM

Lecturer in Midwifery

Summary

As a Sheffield Hallam University Alumni, training on the BSc Midwifery programme I qualified as a Midwife in 2016, returning to work as a Lecturer at SHU in 2024.

About

Growing up in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, I attended my local school, sixth form and then came here, to Sheffield Hallam University to study Midwifery on the BSc programme in 2013. Qualifying from SHU with NMC registration as a Midwife in 2016 I then went on to pursue my Midwifery career in the NHS with rotational roles in two differing Trusts within the local area, later settling as Ward Sister and Learning Environment Manager.

I have now commenced an academic career at Sheffield Hallam University within the Midwifery team as a Lecturer, where I teach across the BSc and MSc programmes and lead a Level 4 Module 'Foundations in Midwifery Care'.
At SHU I am also an Academic Advisor, Academic Assessor as well as a Link Lecturer for Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Other related training I have completed includes postgraduate study to perform the systemic examination of the newborn (SEN, previously NIPE). I also am currently pursuing my MSc in Higher Midwifery, due to complete September 2025 which will also provide me with the qualification as a PMA (Professional Midwifery Advocate).

Special interests within Midwifery include:

Systemic examination of the newborn (SEN/NIPE)
Aromatherapy and massage in Midwifery care
