Jo Tomalin BA, MA, PGCE, MSc, FHEA

Senior Lecturer


I taught mathematics in both secondary schools and further education colleges in England and Mozambique from 1981 to 2004. Since then I have taught in the Mathematics Education Centre at Sheffield Hallam, also contributing to research projects within the university.


Teaching on undergraduate and PGCE mathematics and education courses, working with Masters students on mathematics education modules and dissertations, module leader for several mathematics education courses. Academic tutor for students on undergraduate courses.

Pure Mathematics, Statistics, History of Mathematics, ICT for mathematics education, Mathematics Education.

Co-author of E-learning in Further Education: the impact on intermediate and end-point student outcomes (with Helen Finlayson , Bronwen Maxwell and Ihsan Caillau)

Other activities

Contributes regularly to the Association of Teachers of Mathematics journal 'Teaching Mathematics'.
Regularly attends the Institute of Mathematical Pedagogy annual conferences.
External Examiner for the University of Sunderland Mathematics Education courses.
