I teach print and digital journalism on the undergraduate journalism degree and on the postgraduate journalism and PR degrees. I am a member of the Association for Journalism Education. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I began my journalism career at the Derbyshire Times where I became deputy news editor and was awarded the NUM medal for my work covering the pit closures. I then moved to Sheffield Star where I had various roles as a news reporter, feature writer, sub, district news editor and deputy news editor. I worked for Sheffield media consultancy firm HR Media for clients including Community Health Sheffield, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Westfield Health, Sheffield Health Authority and Sheffield United. I also worked as the press officer for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal. I have worked as a freelance journalist and media consultant.
