About

I have a BSc in Nutrition and a Masters in Research Sociology, Policy and Practice.  I am a doctoral researcher at SHU, where I explored the role of fathers within UK child protection cases.  This qualitative research applied Identity Theory to explore the role of fatherhood through the lens of mothers, fathers and frontline workers who had been involved in phenomena of a child protection case in the last 18 months.  It employed in-depth interviews, reflexive thematic analysis and analysis was conducted using NVivo.  Furthermore, I have 15 years of frontline experience in the public health and substance misuse fields, where I specialised in working with adults around alcohol dependency and alcohol related cognitive impairment.  I am also a trainer in motivational interviewing, with a specific focus on working with those in pre-contemplation leading to me developing my own consultancy business, LJLC, and working with local organisations within Sheffield.

Collectively these experiences and expertise have led me to work specifically on the Masters in Public Health, where I am a senior lecturer, and module leader for the 'Inequalities, Health and Poverty' module and the elective 'Public Health Practice'. I am also the module author for the 'Poverty and Health Inequality' module for the online Masters in Public Health course, as well as a specialist visiting lecturer for the BA Social Work and BSc Food and Nutrition.
