Lucy Stephens

Lucy Stephens MSc

Senior Lecturer

Summary

I am the Course Leader for BSc Physiotherapy.  As a Fellow of the HEA I have experience of teaching and assessing students  in both University settings with Undergraduate and pre-registration students and in clinical practice experience settings.  My areas of specialist interest are in cardiovascular respiratory physiotherapy and critical care rehabilitation.

About

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2009 from Sheffield Hallam University and worked locally in the NHS in different settings before specialising in critical care and surgery.  I started teaching in Higher Education at the University in 2015 as an Associate Lecturer and in 2017 became the first Lecturer Practitioner working in acute care working in Sheffield.  I moved into a permanent role at the University as a Lecturer and completed my Post-graduate certificate in Teaching.  More recently I have completed an MSc in Advancing Professional Practice.

I am passionate about leading and driving the Undergraduate physiotherapy curriculum and the profession forward.  I have experience of teaching across the physiotherapy programmes and more widely across the allied health professions curricula in our integrated care curriculum.  I have an interest in the diversity of the physiotherapy profession and I am involved in a number of projects and research which aims to explore the experiences of minority ethnic students joining the physiotherapy workforce.  I continue to practice in a private capacity seeing patients with complex cardiovascular respiratory problems.
