Alongside lecturing at Sheffield Hallam part-time, Phil is a freelance scriptwriter. He's written for TV series such as Shameless, Doctors and Murphy's Law, and has had an original comedy drama series transmitted on BBC radio. He's also had numerous original TV and film projects in commissioned development. He won a British Screenwriters' Award in 2016 for his short film script, More. In 2017 his first stage play, The Black Eye Club, was winner of The Bread and Roses Playwriting Award. It will be premiered in London before transferring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018. The play will also be published.
Totally passionate about scriptwriting, Phil loves working with new writers, helping them to develop their scripts to industry standard. Formerly an award-winning advertising copywriter, he can also give advice on other careers in professional writing.
