About

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute (SCII) and my interests in research and teaching cross culture and media. A background working in the cultural sector has shaped my interest in culture’s impact on our lives, in cultural policy and governance, and in the increasing role of technology and data in culture.

I am an experienced postgraduate course leader and am currently Course Leader for MA Global Communication and Media and MA Public Relations, and was Course Leader for MA Arts and Cultural Management for an extended period.  I am (from Jan 25) External Examiner for the MA Arts Management Policy and Practice at the University of Manchester.  My teaching similarly spans media and communication theories and debates, digital cultures, and cultural policy and arts management. I regularly supervise MA dissertations across these areas, and I am involved in cross disciplinary projects, including supporting students as researchers.

My research bridges these areas through the entanglements between cultural data, small cultural organisations, funders and policy, work with City of Doncaster Council as a critical friend to the delivery of their cultural strategy, and as part of a multidisciplinary team working on a three-year £2.1m project on creative health and community assets funded through UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) as part of their mobilising community assets to tackle health inequalities programme.
