Seth Bennett
Senior Lecturer, Course Leader for Sports Journalism
Summary
I have covered every Olympic Games since 2012 as a reporter or commentator working for the biggest broadcasters in the world. I have commentated on over 1,200 football matches, 1,000 ice hockey matches and 23 different sports on TV or radio. I have been working at Sheffield Hallam since 2011 and took over course leadership in 2023.
About
I started out at BBC Radio Sheffield covering the Sheffield Steelers, before graduating to covering the 6 local football teams. I am a self confessed radio nerd, and was part of the team which created Football Heaven, the nightly football show on BBC Radio Sheffield.
In 2011 I went freelance and began working for the BBC in Salford reading the sports news on 5 Live, Radio 4, Radio 2 and BBC World Service. During this time I became the BBC's ice hockey commentator, covering the Olympics in Sochi, Pyeongchang and Beijing. I also worked the Rio, Tokyo and Paris Olympics as part of the commentary team for the Olympic Broadcasting Service.
In 2016 I took the role of Sports Video Journalist for BBC World News, covering the biggest sporting events on the planet, from the baseball World Series, the Super Bowl, Australian Open Tennis and World Championship boxing. Alongside 2 football World Cups.
I joined Sheffield Hallam University as a full time Senior Lecturer in 2021 and became the course leader for Sports Journalism in 2023.
