Apprenticeships are helping Asda attract and upskill talent
At Asda, apprenticeships are powerful way to upskill and support colleagues, helping them grow in their current role or pivot into a new career.
Hear from our apprentices as they share how Asda has helped them develop new skills, gain confidence, and take the next step in their career journey.
Claire Armitage, Packaging and Print Manager, Packaging Professional
“One thing I’ve learned at ASDA is that understanding the business, staying adaptable, and thinking creatively are key to driving change. So, when my manager suggested the Level 6 Packaging Professional apprenticeship, I took a moment to reflect. I chatted with colleagues already on an apprenticeship, weighed up my personal and career goals, and thought—why not? Let’s go for it.
And I’m so glad I did. The apprenticeship has been a game-changer. It’s boosted my confidence, sharpened my thinking, and helped me see opportunities through a new lens. The personal professional development element has deepened my business understanding, while the degree side has taken my technical knowledge to the next level. I’m one year into a three-year journey, and I’m on track for a first-class result—which still amazes me, considering I hadn’t been in education for 30 years!
My advice? If you’re considering an apprenticeship at ASDA, think about your goals, talk to colleagues who’ve taken the leap—and then just do it!”
Grace Brown, Warehouse Manager, Supply Chain Leader
“My journey hasn’t always been straightforward. I was made redundant from my first apprenticeship, which was a huge setback at the time. By chance, I found the opportunity at Asda, and it truly is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Every day I feel motivated and proud to work for such a people-focused business, surrounded by colleagues who want the best for me and who form an incredible support network.
Since joining ASDA as a Logistics Degree Apprentice, I’ve rotated across departments in our distribution network, gaining a strong understanding of large-scale supply chain operations. Alongside this, I’ve had the privilege of speaking at the House of Commons to MPs about my journey as an apprentice, later receiving a personal letter of recognition from an MP. I was nominated for Apprentice of the Year at the Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards, where I sat alongside senior directors which was an emotional and proud moment that reminded me how far I’ve come. I am also thrilled to share that I have recently won the Generation Logistics Trailblazer Award!”
