Degree apprenticeships help us ‘grow our own’ talent

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of Yorkshire’s leading acute trusts, serving a population of more than 420,000 across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas. The Hospital trust has worked closely with Sheffield Hallam University to train and upskill its healthcare professionals.

“Degree apprenticeships provide us with the opportunity to ‘grow our own’ talent and improve staff retention.

A huge benefit of apprenticeships is the ability for apprentices to work full-time in a clinical setting. For us, this means individuals develop clinical skills and can put them into practice straight away. The flexibility of apprenticeships allow us to train individuals to the demands of the department which ensures apprentices are able to make a positive contribution sooner.

Apprenticeships also allow the development of meaningful relationships with other staff members as they immediately feel part of the team which is not always the case with full-time university students.”
