AWRC Spring Networking Meeting
Are you a Sheffield City Region SME working in the area of wellbeing, exercise or sport where technology plays an important role in your products or services? Have you heard about the new Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) opening on the Olympic Legacy Park in April 2019? In one of several roles, the AWRC aims to act as an Emerging Technologies Hub for the sector, and we’d like to hear how you think this might work to grow innovation in regional businesses.
Auxetic Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering
This project is a collaboration between the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre (BMRC) and MERI, initially funded by SCH, with further funding via a SHU VC PhD scholarship matched by an external biomedical devices company. The overarching aim of the project is to develop a range of ‘auxetic’ porous scaffolds for eventual tissue engineering applications, which mimic the mechanical properties of soft tissues, promote migration, adhesion and differentiation of cells, and enable delivery of bioactive components.
Plasma and surface engineering
PhD applications are welcomed from candidates wishing to conduct research on plasma and surface engineering in the National High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HIPIMS) Technology Centre.
