Introduction

This module aims to provide fundamental knowledge and skills for registered professionals in Oncology.

You will explore the philosophy, principles and practices in oncology and radiotherapy to enable you to develop your clinical expertise and provide person-centred evidence-based assessment and optimal care for people affected by cancer, and/or be able to signpost and refer patients to more specialist/advanced practitioners and/or specialist services.

This module is relevant to a wide range of practitioners working with those affected by cancer with a focus on Radiotherapy.

What you’ll learn

You will study topics such as:

  • Philosophy, principles, policies, and service models influencing the delivery and quality of cancer care.
  • Cancer biology
  • Genomics and its applications in cancer diagnosis
  • Contemporary, oncology practice in technical & patient care
  • Cancer pathways & transitions in cancer care
  • Identify and manage oncological emergencies
  • Approaches to symptom control, psychosocial support and working within a multi-professional team.
  • Person centred care, shared decision-making, informed consent, and personalised care planning.

Skills you’ll gain

The module is aligned with the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development (ACCEND) framework and will assist you in the development of academic, professional and transferable skills that support future learning, can be applied in practice to positively to enhance your service, enable you to evidence requirements of your regulatory body, and support career and role development within specialist cancer services.

How you’ll learn

As an online learning module there will be a blend of self-directed (asynchronous) study and activities to create an inclusive and collaborative learning community that fosters peer and tutor interaction and support.

Home student: £915

  • Attendance

    Delivery Method:

    Synchronous online learning (distance learning). Take part in live, timetabled online sessions using tools like video calls and virtual classrooms. You’ll learn in real time with tutors and other students, with no need to attend campus for teaching or assessments.
