“I gained practical, hands-on experience that mirrors the expectations of global health jobs.”
After studying MSc Public Health at Sheffield Hallam, Timileyin Oyebade has gone on to support international climate adaptation efforts as a Climate Change Analyst at the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C.
“I currently work as a Climate Change Analyst at the Adaptation Fund within the World Bank Group. My role sits within the Programming and Innovation team, where I support implementing entities and country leads to ensure their grant proposals align with our strategic goals. I’m also the focal point for our health portfolio, reviewing proposals from multilateral organisations and connecting with partners working in the climate–health space.
“The skills I gained during my MSc Public Health at Sheffield Hallam have been central to my role. The course developed my analytical thinking and data interpretation skills, which I now use regularly to generate insights on our portfolio and communicate with strategic partners. Modules like Public Health Practice and Epidemiology gave me practical, hands-on experience that mirrors the expectations of global health jobs — especially in writing, data analysis and policy review.
“I chose Sheffield Hallam because of the course structure — it had a well-rounded curriculum with the specific modules I was most interested in, like epidemiology and public health practice. The 18-month programme gave me enough time to fully engage with the content and build the right skills without feeling rushed.”
During his time at Hallam, Timileyin made the most of opportunities to learn through real-world scenarios and practical experience.
“The learning environment was rich and engaging. I particularly appreciated the practical components of the course — workshops, case studies, guest lectures, and real-world assessments like elevator pitches. These experiences helped me build confidence, apply theory to practice, and prepare for interviews and job roles.
“Sheffield Hallam offers excellent facilities, from 24/7 computer labs and an extensive digital library to LinkedIn Learning and academic support services. I used a wide range of resources — including SPSS, Qualtrics and Microsoft Office — and developed strong skills in writing, research and data analysis. I also found the wellbeing and careers services really helpful. The academics helped me build a tailored development plan from the start, which guided me throughout my studies and helped prepare me for life after graduation.
“Beyond the classroom, I loved being part of the student community. Serving as a course rep was a highlight — it allowed me to represent my cohort, engage with university staff, and contribute to a better learning experience for everyone. That sense of connection and purpose was incredibly motivating.”
Looking ahead, Timileyin is focused on continuing to make a global impact.
“I’m passionate about practical, impactful work that improves people’s lives. I plan to continue working in project coordination and development within multilateral development banks and UN agencies. My long-term goal is to transition into consultancy and eventually run my own organisation, managing health projects in partnership with global institutions.”
