“Sheffield Hallam helped me to fight cyber crime.”

Roha studied BSc (Honours) Cyber Security with Forensics at Sheffield Hallam and she now works as a security engineer at RSA.

What I do

“I work in London as a security engineer at global insurance company RSA. I protect the company by keeping our data secure using security tooling and configuration. My role is important because insurance is a highly regulated industry and the consequences for security lapses can be hugely significant.

How Hallam helped me

“I had some great opportunities at Hallam which have helped me advance my career in cyber security. The one I’m most proud of is the year I spent working on placement at the BBC. I learned more about security and how to apply it to all aspects of the business.

“The equipment and specialist labs on the course were amazing. We used the latest forensics software and toolkits for security testing so we could apply our learning to real-life situations like investigating devices such as mobiles. We also went to court to learn how they call on security professionals as expert witnesses.

“There’s a lot of problem-solving required in my job and I had plenty of practice on my course. If anything, my course taught me that there’s always a solution — you just have to work together to figure it out!”
