Paula Hamilton read politics at Liverpool University, receiving the John Patterson University Undergraduate Scholarship for academic achievement. In 1997 she began to study for qualification as a probation officer, gaining a further degree in community justice from Manchester University.
Following graduation Paula worked as a probation officer for Greater Manchester Probation Service. In 2001, Paula returned to Manchester University as a lecturer in community justice and criminology, becoming programme leader of the BA Community Justice Programme in 2002.
Paula joined the Hallam Centre for Community Justice in September 2002.
