Valerie Monti Holland

Valerie has been a drama specialist since completing her MA in applied theatre at the University of Manchester. Since then she has worked in a number of settings - male prisons, young offenders' institutions and juvenile secure units, in addition to working in schools across Yorkshire with disadvantaged young people and with youth offending teams.

Valerie designed and delivered a bullying and victim awareness package at HMP Moorland Young Offenders Institution, as well as at HMP Leeds from 2000 to 2003. This training package was delivered through drama and action methods, offering an experiential and creative learning opportunity to the participants.

She also employed these dynamic techniques in the posts of transnational manager and subsequently programme manager at the voluntary agency SOVA's project 'Women into Work'. This programme worked closely with other agencies in researching the barriers to employment, training and education for women resettling into the community following a custodial sentence, and now applies the research findings in projects designed to meet women's specific and complex needs.

Currently Valerie works across the three sectors, principally in the areas of regeneration and public health in addition to criminal justice.
