Study with us

Our courses give you plenty of opportunities to apply what you learn in a practical way.

We're proud of the high quality of work produced in the Department of Computing. For example, a team of our students had their game Bounceback commercially released through Sony's PlayStation Network in December 2012. They're now working as programmers in the games industry.

Placements

On all our undergraduate computing courses you have the opportunity to spend your third year on a 48-week paid placement in a company.

Employers understand the value of this kind of experience - and so do we.

Work placements are a real advantage. You develop your confidence and practical skills, get work experience to go on your CV, and have brilliant opportunities to network with employers.

We organise and help you apply for these placements. In the Department of Computing we have longstanding relationships with many well-known international companies and other smaller organisations throughout the UK who return to us for students every year.

The recent Shadbolt Review of Computer Sciences Degree Accreditation and Graduate Employability states: "Evidence suggests that some HE providers are better than others at helping students to research, apply for and gain work placements […some ] have staff dedicated to employability such as the Placement and Employability Team at Sheffield Hallam University. The review’s evidence has clearly indicated the value of work experience (including placements and internships) to enhance graduate employability.
