The Materials and Engineering Research Institute is dedicated to addressing industrial problems through the application of fundamental science and engineering.

The Cultural Communication and Computing Research Institute makes connections between the research traditions of art, design, media production, communication studies, computing and engineering.

The new National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering (NCEFE) is a state-of-the-art centre offering world-class facilities to help keep the UK at the forefront of food and drink manufacturing. 

Our facilities and expertise focus on tackling food industry challenges such as productivity, health, minimising waste and reducing energy use. We also support the food and drink industry by developing new and enhanced facilities, processes, equipment and creating a skilled, knowledgeable workforce.

The centre includes pilot-scale production facilities, laboratories, workshops and teaching spaces and is a catalyst for innovation, forward thinking and problem solving.
