What subjects do we cover?
Our teaching staff carry out research and many are established writers. In the National Student Survey over 90% of our students complimented our teaching.
We cover three main areas.
In English language we specialise in analysing how language works in its social context.
In English literature we offer modules in all the traditional areas - as well as not-so-traditional areas such as post-colonial and North American literature.
And our creative writing team aim to get you publishing your own poetry, scripts or prose.
We explore the making of the modern world through a focus on British, European and global history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
On our wide range of courses you can explore contemporary themes of revolution, nationalism, imperialism, globalisation, social movements, identity, community, migration and war.
Stage and screen
Our screen studies and performing arts courses are led by award-winning and high profile academics including current screenwriters and performers.
