Study with us

Study with us

At the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Politics, we aim to inspire you with a curriculum that is stimulating and challenging. As a student you’ll work independently and with fellow students to learn about concepts, develop your own ideas and test them through dialogue and debate, and have ample opportunities to conduct your own research and grow as a scholar and thinker.

As a member of Hallam Students Union you’ll have access to everything from volunteering, societies, events & trips, to training sessions and work placements. Studying in Sheffield, at our beautiful Collegiate Campus also means you’ll have exciting shops, nightlife, and the outstanding countryside on your door, ready to explore.

We also give you the best possible start to your career. As an undergraduate student, whichever course you're on, you'll have the chance to experience the world of work, through employer-led briefs, commissioned work projects or placements. Our students have had placements with organisations such as local charities, political parties across South Yorkshire, Sheffield City Council, community groups, South Yorkshire Police, local businesses, and many more. We'll make sure you gain the skills employers want, like problem-solving, and how to handle and analyse data.

And because you're more likely to get a job if you have an international outlook, we'll give you the chance to spend a term studying or on placement abroad. We currently have partners in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa , Hong Kong, Fiji and Peru, and European countries including the Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Spain, Germany, Ireland and Slovakia.
