Andrew became a permanent member of staff at Sheffield Hallam University in 2001. He has acted as Course Leader for the Architecture and Environmental Design Course and the Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture.
Andrew's students have won a number of awards at both Part 1 and Part 2 level from the RIBA White Rose Competition. In 2010 he took on the role of Academic Group Leader, becoming responsible for the effective management of the architectural staff. He teaches broadly across the courses, in the areas of design and the creative integration of construction technology and carry out architectural consultancy projects. He is currently the Course Leader for the MSc Technical Architecture.
During my time as a student at The University of Sheffield Andrew worked regularly for University's Architectural Consultancy Practice, collaborating with staff members on live projects and competitions. He then worked for ten years in private architectural practice, gaining RIBA part 3, and for two years combined work in practice with part time teaching at Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield. During eight years at Derek Trowell Architects his completed projects were used as models for published academic research and have been featured in the architectural and national press.
