Ania de Berg

Dr Anna de Berg

Senior Lecturer in German, Sheffield Business School Academic Lead for Erasmus and Exchanges

Summary

I came to Sheffield Hallam in 2013 after having taught at universities in Germany, Poland and the UK, including the University of Sheffield, University of York and Leeds Beckett University. I am both an active researcher and an enthusiastic teacher. My research areas are cultural studies, German and Austrian culture and society, incl. modern literature, art and film; and travel writing, incl. the interrelations between tourism and culture. In addition, I retain a strong interest in intercultural communication and in theoretical issues in cultural studies. More recently, I have also become interested in didactics, especially the classroom use of technology and modern media. As a teacher, I aim to communicate my own enthusiasm to my students and help them become confident communicators across cultures as well as accomplished linguists. I was nominated for the Inspirational Teacher Award in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, a Students' Union Academic Staff of the Year Award in 2015 and I won the SHU Inspirational Teacher Award (ITA) in 2015 and Sheffield Business School ITA in 2015 and 2016. My publications include a monograph on German-language travel literature and a co-edited volume on remembrance in Austrian literature and film.
