About

Anna Stevens joined the Centre for Education and Inclusion Research (CEIR) in September 2008, after having worked at the University's Centre for Research and Evaluation (CRE) for five years.

Anna has extensive experience in quantitative research methods. She is particularly skilled in handling large datasets, managing large scale surveys and has wide experience of questionnaire design and data collection. Anna also has a keen interest in secondary data analysis and has worked with educational datasets for a number of years. She is widely experienced in using datasets such as the National Pupil Database (NPD), LSYPE, the school workforce census and school census data for research purposes.

Having worked on a wide variety of commissioned research projects during her time at SHU, Anna has developed a keen interest in education research. Most recently she has worked on a variety of studies using randomised control trial methodology to evaluate the impact of education interventions. This includes a large scale project looking at the impacts of an NCETM led intervention for teachers on multiplicative reasoning, which involved testing an initial sample of over 8,000 pupils across 58 secondary schools in June 2014. Furthermore worked on two EEF funded projects investigating the impacts of reading for pleasure interventions on pupils making the transition from primary to secondary school. This involved testing around 700 pupils in over 40 primary schools and matching in Key Stage 2 results as a pre-test measure.

Anna is currently working on an evaluation of the Further Mathematics support programme which involves looking at pupil and school level factors influencing the uptake of further mathematics.
