Summary

Deborah Develin is Senior Lecturer in Practice Education in the Department of Social Work Social Care and Community Studies. She was appointed in 2008.

Deborah has eighteen years experience in social work and has held posts in the areas of older people, generic fieldwork, community social work, child protection, social work education and workforce development. Deborah has a departmental lead for practice education and works with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve high quality practice learning experiences for student social workers.

She contributes to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and she leads the Introductory Practice Educator Course. Deborah developed and delivers, in partnership with colleagues, a continuing professional development programme for practice educators in the region.

Deborah has also undertaken research which has focused on student placement experiences and practice educator motivation.

About

Deborah Develin is Senior Lecturer in Practice Education in the Department of Social Work Social Care and Community Studies. She was appointed in 2008.

Deborah graduated from Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1991, obtaining a BA (Hons) Applied Social Studies and social work qualification (CQSW). In 1997 she obtained the CCETSW Practice Teaching Award, followed in 2012 by a teaching qualification (PG Cert LTHE) from Sheffield Hallam University. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Deborah has eighteen years experience in social work and has held posts in the areas of older people, generic fieldwork, community social work, child protection and social work education and workforce development.

Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam University Deborah held the post of Project Manager for Social Work Education with Skills for Care in the East Midlands. She is an experienced and qualified practice educator, having supported students on site and off site.

Deborah has a departmental lead for practice education and works with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve high quality practice learning experiences for student social workers. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the college where her focus is on preparation for practice, practice education and interprofessional education.

Deborah leads the Introductory Practice Educator Course. She has developed, and delivers, with colleagues, a continuing professional development programme for practice educators in both statutory and third sector organisations across the region.

Deborah has undertaken research which has focused on student placement experiences and practice educator motivation.
