Summary

Science subject tutor for Teach First

About

I began teaching in Barnsley, spending two years at the Foulstone School in Darfield before moving on to Doncaster, where I spent three years at Adwick School and then five years at Balby Carr School. I then moved to Minsthorpe Community College in Wakefield LA where I also worked for five years. As well as teaching Science, over the years I have also taught Maths, Chemistry and General Studies. I had various positions of responsibility including Head of Chemistry, Head of Science, and finally Assistant Principal.

I left teaching in 2005 to set up my own training and consultancy business, which I have been running successfully since, providing professional development and other services. In 2006 I was fortunate to secure a part time position as Professional Development Leader at the recently opened National Science Learning Centre at York University. This role allowed me to maintain close contact with developments in Science education, and form many useful partnerships across a range of organisations. I left in early 2014 to come to Sheffield Hallam University (as one half of a job-share), to work with Teach First participants, something I had first done through my business in 2012.

My main interests are in Science and Chemistry, leadership, practical work, and the use of ICT to support teaching and learning.
