I completed my award-winning PhD at Sheffield Hallam in 2012, exploring stress and coping in elite sports coaching.
I am Fellow of the HEA and the Course Leader for the MSc Sport & Exercise Psychology degree. I also teach on range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules on a number of sport courses.
I am an active researcher whose interests lie in stress, burnout, and wellbeing, particularly in the field of sports coaching. As a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), I am an active sport psychology consultant, working with athletes and teams in a variety of sports.
I have a background in sports coaching, and completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Sheffield in 2001. After working for several years as a basketball coach, I gained my MSc in Sport and Exercise Science at Sheffield Hallam University in 2006, and then stayed on to study for my PhD entitled "Stress & Coping: A Study of Elite Sports Coaches". This work won the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) 'Dissertation of the Year' award in 2012.
My current research focuses on burnout and wellbeing in sports, with a particular interest in coaching and the application of mindfulness to enhance wellbeing in sport and physical activity. In addition to research, I am the Course Leader for the MSc Sport & Exercise Psychology degree, and teach on a range of modules across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate sport courses. I also have several years of supervisory experience, having supervised undergraduate, MSc and Doctoral level students, and am co-director of the WiSPA (Psychological Wellbeing in Sport & Physical Activity) Research Group
