Associate Head


Summary

Rosemary is Associate Head in the School of Sport and Physical Activity. She teaches on Sport Development, Sport Policy and Enterprise modules and leads on Employability and Student Experience within the School. Rosemary has an extensive network of external international, national and local partnerships and this provides significant opportunities for students to become involved in numerous major sport events including, the Olympic Games (Summer and Winter), Commonwealth Games and various World Championships.

In the 2018 New Years Honours list Rosemary was awarded an MBE for Services to Higher Education.

About

Rosemary has worked in a range of roles since joining the University in 2003. She also has a significant level of sport development experience, having previously worked for Sport England, the Sports Council for Wales, and a number of nationally recognised sport development agencies. 

Between 2010 and 2012 Rosemary was seconded to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) and worked as the Staff Manager for the Press Operations Team covering both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In addition, Rosemary has specific experience of sport media and press operations at other major national and international events, including, most recently, the 2024  Olympic Games in Paris, the 2023 World Cycling Championships in Glasgow, the 2023 Special Olympics in Berlin, the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the 2022 European Games in Munich. Students from within the School of Sport and Physical Activity have also been provided with opportunities to be involved at all of these events.

Rosemary has also worked each year since 2013 on the London Marathon, providing support to the media team and interviewing elite athletes and personalities participating in the event.

Other activities

Between 2011 and 2023 Rosemary was Chair of the Community Sport Trust (a Derbyshire based, community and health social enterprise).
