Tony Smith PhD, MSc, PgCert, PGCE, TEFL, BA, HEA Fellow

Senior Lecturer In Professional and Organisational Development

Summary

I have had a varied career, both in the UK and overseas, holding a variety of positions at staff, line management and board levels, in the public, private and third sectors.

In recent years, I have worked increasingly in academic and consulting roles, for a range of UK, European and International health organisations.

About

I am currently Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Organisation Development in the Centre for Leadership in Health and Social Care.

Aside from lecturing on a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes, I am actively engaged in national and internationally funded research and education projects funded by organisations including the EU, National Institute for Health Research and World health Organisation.

I am currently working on research looking at improvement strategies for interprofessional team work delivery models in integrated health and social care services.

I am currently a principle researcher for the LEPHIE project funded by the European Commission to develop leadership education programmes for European public health professionals. As well as his teaching and research responsibilities, I regularly work on a consultancy basis for a range of organisations, as well as speaking at national and international conferences on a variety of subjects.

I have a PhD in mixed methods health services research. My thesis focused on understanding the leadership dynamics and their impact in integrated health and social care teams. I also hold an MSc in Organisation Development and Consultancy and a Postgraduate Certificate in Managing Change. I am a qualified teacher and trainer, a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and am also accredited to consult with the Myers Briggs Personality Type Inventory (MBTI).
