Professor Olga Matthias Inaugural Lecture
Digital technology makes work easier and organisations more productive. Doesn't it...?
Technology has become fundamental to how we live our lives. We are used to having a world of information at our fingertips, always accessible. It is the same at work as it is in our personal lives. This lecture explores how the underpinning Operations Management triumvirate of technology, process and people is affected.
Technology has been a major source of inspiration, innovation and change in the business world. No matter how much its benefits have been lauded and applauded, human interactions with technology and the resulting impact upon productivity are not as straightforward or immediate as it might appear. Do we actually work better? Are companies more profitable? To what extent have our jobs changed?
This lecture explores what it means to organisations and workers to be surrounded by the promise of so much improvement as a result of the technology revolution.
