Sheffield Crescenters Association annual reunion

Date: From Thursday 29 September 2011 to Friday 30 September 2011
Time: 11.00 PM to 11.00 PM
Venue: Beauchief Hotel, Sheffield

The Sheffield Crescenters association met for their annual reunion on the weekend of the 30 September - 1 October 2011. The Crescenters association is made up of former students from the City of Sheffield Training College, one of the founding colleges of Sheffield Hallam University.

The college, that was based on what is now the Collegiate Crescent campus opened in 1905 and taught with only 6 staff, in 1966 it was renamed Sheffield City College of Education, before merging with Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1976 and finally becoming what is today the Teacher Education department within Sheffield Hallam University.

Crescenters members who attended this reunion studied there between the 1930s and 1960s and were taught in the Main Building. At that time Collegiate Hall was the women's residence, Southbourne was the men's. The Crescenters have fond memories of their time in Sheffield and return regularly to reminisce.

Ten Crescenters members attended the reunion held at Sheffield's Beauchief hotel. The reunion consisted of a three course dinner on the Friday night, followed by their annual general meeting (AGM) on the Saturday morning.

At the meeting the secretary Margaret Hayes (1948-1950) and chairman Geoff Warburton (1953-1955) ran through the minutes of 2010 AGM and any matters arising from their last meeting, this was followed by the chairman's report and the secretary/treasurer's report before the group discussing ideas for their next reunion in 2012.

The rest of the morning the group shared their memories and reminisced of their time in Sheffield over tea and coffee.
