Taiwanese alumni event

Date: Saturday 17 November 2012
Time: 12.00 AM to 12.00 AM

Senior lecturer Liz Lye recently took a trip to Taipei to visit some of our key international partner institutions and meet some Sheffield Business School alumni.

Liz visited Shih Hsin University and the National Taipei College of Business (NTCB), delivering a marketing communications lecture to 45 of their marketing students. The government-funded NTCB, founded in 1917, is due to expand next year and with the planned opening of a second, large campus the institution will be reconfigured as the National Taipei University of Business.

She also met briefly with the main agents of the United Kingdom Education Advisory Service (UKEAS), an education consultancy that provides free and impartial counselling and application services for international students wishing to study at high schools, colleges and universities in the UK. Liz will be returning to Taiwan in January 2013 on a ten-day visit to recruitment fairs organised by UKEAS agents.

Liz's Taiwanese trip was rounded off when she attended an afternoon tea event held for University alumni. Thirteen recent postgraduates attended from our international marketing, managing global business, human resources management, international business management and MBA courses.

Liz returned to British shores with a host of positive feedback. Many Sheffield Business School academics were remembered with gratitude by the former Sheffield Business School students, with particular thanks going to Chris Duggan, David Chapman, Mark Godson, Andrew Constable, Andy Cropper, Kiefer Lee, Jeanette Baker, Paul Johnston and Liz herself.

All but one of the Taiwanese alumni who attended the event have now secured jobs, with some in senior managerial positions.

Liz says, 'The overwhelming message was of gratitude that we hosted an event, and a strong connection with and support for the University's values and learning environment. They really miss it and want to stay in touch!' It is now hoped the Taiwanese alumni event will become an annual fixture.
