Why postgraduate study?

There are lots of reasons why you might choose to return to University to do a postgraduate degree:

Professional Development

A postgraduate degree can help you to further specialise in your area, equip you with new skills, and help you progress on your career path.

When Christian Hassell finished his undergraduate degree in Film and Media Production, he wanted to find the best path to his chosen career. Watch Christian's video here as he explains how studying a postgraduate course in Digital Media Management is getting him closer to his dream job.

Career Change

If you’re looking at changing career direction or re-training, a postgraduate degree is a great way to get the professional skills and qualifications you need to start a new career.

Sophie Moore enjoyed her undergraduate in Sport and Exercise Sciences so much, she decided to continue her studies in Sheffield with the MSc Radiotherapy and Oncology Practice course.

'After my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to work within an NHS clinic, where I was able to interact with patients diagnosed with cancer. These experiences inspired me to take the MSc Radiotherapy and Oncology in Practice course.

This course has not only increased my confidence, but has enhanced my employability and prepared me for clinical interviews following qualification.'

Continue your learning

Postgraduate study is an opportunity to continue your learning in a subject area you’re passionate about, whether that’s picking up from where you left off at undergraduate level or learning something completely new.

Adam Mama-Rudd is an Analytical Support Officer for the Independent Office for Police Conduct and completed an MA in Human Rights.

‘If you’re thinking about doing postgraduate study, my advice is don’t let money stop you. If you’re passionate about the subject, that’s all that matters. Don’t worry that you’re not clever enough. The lecturers are great and will help get you through. The biggest barrier is self-belief. If you believe you can do it, you can.’

If you’re not sure if postgraduate study is right for you, you can also book an appointment with a career advisor who will be able to help you look at your options and decide what’s best for you. To book an appoint please email us or call 0114 225 3752.

If you have already applied to study with us you will automatically receive the alumni discount, subject to eligibility.
