Meeting our Madrid based alumni

Monday 02 July 2018

Madrid is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country but it also a place where a strong cohort of Hallam alumni reside. Former students of Engineering, Business, English and Languages courses came together to meet one another, share experiences and hear about the University's current ambitions and plans. Spain maintains strong links to the UK through its educational partners and Sheffield Hallam is working with 14 universities on exchange programmes.

Sheffield Hallam's former Students Union President, Emily Conor said

"Tonight was a strong reminder of the community Sheffield Hallam forms from the day of enrolment and beyond graduation; Sharing a room with a such a varied group of experiences, stories and pathways reminded me of the sense of connection you build at Sheffield Hallam, whether recently graduated or well into your career. It was a truly inspiring evening that presented a wealth of interest and potential opportunities for old or existing students, and more importantly, the undoubtedly willingness from all to give something back".

The global reach of our alumni is impressive, with students coming to Hallam as Erasmus or international students, some moving to Spain to pursue their career goals and all with fond memories of their time in Sheffield. A life-long link is important to both our alumni and our current students as we continue to grow opportunities for alumni who are based overseas: to host work place visits with students from their departments, to become involved in the development of courses or to help with introductions into business. Accessing a network with a uniquely Sheffield focus is also incredibly powerful and we look forward to growing groups in key cities across the world in the future. We have exciting plans for the year ahead to host a number of networking events giving you the opportunity to reconnect. We're visiting Hong Kong and China in October and plans are underway for a number of European events too. To keep informed about these events please keep your details up to date and join our Facebook group to get the latest news.
