In the run up to the COP21 climate change summit in Paris, BBC news has been running a series of TV, radio and online news articles relating to climate change.

As part of this series, BBC News Science Editor David Shukman visited the BMRC to discover the contribution of methane production from waste food to global warming.

David spoke to Dr Jillian Newton from BMRC, with Dr Newton setting up an experiment using time-lapse photography and a technique known as gas chromatography to monitor the decomposition of chicken waste and the resulting production of methane biogas.

You can read the article and watch the news report here. The report appeared on the BBC One six and ten o'clock news programmes, as well appearing on a number of BBC radio bulletins.
