The Sheffield Glial Symposium is jointly organised by Dr Sue Campbell and Dr Liz Allen from the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre, the Department of Psychology, University of Sheffield, and the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience to bring together researchers working in the field of glial biology, particularly in pathological states. The meeting was a great opportunity for PhD students and Post-doctoral researchers to share their preliminary research and to develop collaborations between the organising institutions.

The meeting on the 17th April 2019 was the 5th Sheffield Glial Symposium. The day proved to be a great success, with over 50 researchers from all three organising institutes in attendance.

The meeting included plenary talks from Dr Alicia Hidalgo, University of Birmingham; Prof Tim David, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand; and Prof John Livingston, Leeds Institute of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences.

In addition to the keynote speakers, the meeting included nine oral presentations and research snapshots from a range of PhD students, Post-doctoral researchers and Fellows from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.

The event received positive feedback overall regarding the high quality of presentations. The 6th Glial Symposium will be held at the University of Sheffield in 2020.
