Enterprise Sandwich Year Placements
The application process for the Enterprise Work for Yourself Sandwich Year Placement is now closed for the2026-2027 cohort.

Are you ready to turn your passion into a profitable business? The Enterprise Work for Yourself Sandwich Year Placement provides a unique opportunity to build your entrepreneurial skills, generate income, and join a vibrant community.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Level 5 (second year) student.
- Be enrolled on a course eligible for a sandwich year.
- Have a business idea that aligns with one or more of these categories:
- Creativity
- Community
- Health
- Environment
- Sustainability
- Commit to 21 hours per week, including attending mandatory sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm, from September to June (excluding designated holiday weeks).
- Please note that the above days are not optional and we do monitor attendance over the year, if you do miss numerous days on the timetable you are at risk to be removed from the placement year.
- Note that international students are ineligible to apply due to visa restrictions.
About the Placement
This structured programme, guided by experienced Enterprise Coaches, helps you develop a viable business in one of the listed categories.
Every Monday and Wednesday, you’ll join a supportive community of fellow placement students in the Hallam iLab (Stoddart, 7104). You’ll participate in interactive workshops, gain valuable insights from Coaches and peers, and even pitch for funding as your business progresses.

Important Information
Before applying, visit the Hallam iLab (on a Monday or Wednesday) to explore the space and meet current placement students and staff.
Additional details:
You must complete an application form. If shortlisted, you will be asked to attend an interview.
The placement is unpaid, but if you are eligible to receive a maintenance loan, you can apply for a standard placement amount - please note that this will be less than your normal study year amount. Contact your funding provider for details
Part-time work alongside the placement is permitted, but your placement must take priority.
The programme runs from mid-September 2026 to the end of June 2027.
