Active School Travel Evaluation

Project Director: Stephen Parkes
Project Duration: 2025-2027

The evaluation is focused on active school travel in England and is being undertaken in collaboration with NatCen and Mosodi. CRESR is leading on two components of this project. Firstly, preparatory work building a database of schools, their characteristics, and the nature of interventions implemented to support active travel. This database underpins wider work across the evaluation, including a large national school active travel survey and local case-studies. It also supports the second component that CRESR is delivering, which is analysis of STATS19 data. This analysis aims to estimate the impact of school active travel behaviour change and infrastructure interventions on road safety behaviour change and infrastructure interventions on road safety within the vicinity of schools.

This project concludes in June 2027, with reporting expected following this.
