Project Director: Ian Cole
Project Duration: 2011-2013

To monitor the impact of the changes to Housing Benefit and Local Housing Allowances in the private rented sector introduced by the government in 2010. The project explored the consequences for both claimants and landlords in twenty two local areas throughout the United Kingdom on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative research. The research also involved ongoing spatial and econometric analysis of the effects of the measures at the national level in Great Britain. The project commenced in April 2011 and ended in June 2014.

The research team was a consortium led by CRESR and also involved Ipsos MORI, the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Professor Peter Kemp from the Institute of Social Policy at the University of Oxford.
