Become an expert in analysing and managing the world around you on our expert-led courses in Geography, Environmental Science and Planning. You'll learn and apply the latest thinking through lectures, workshops, lab classes and work placements – and you'll also study real-world examples on fieldwork trips in the UK and beyond. The department's industry links have helped previous students arrange placements all over the world, from the Peak District National Park Authority to universities in Australia and Canada.

Our tutors are active in research and consultancy, so you'll be learning current ideas from practising professionals. We also design our programmes with input from professional bodies, including the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management and the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Beyond our core undergraduate courses, we offer highly specialised postgraduate programmes in urban planning, geographical information systems and environmental management, and opportunities for doctoral research.
