Summer / Winter schools

Many overseas universities offer courses in the summer or winter breaks, which are the perfect chance for you to experience studying abroad without committing to a full semester or year. They can provide first-class learning experiences as well as a real taste of life in another country. You get to travel, experience another culture and improve your communication skills all at once.

If you are planning to apply for a GoGlobal grant to cover some of the participation costs, you must submit your application by 25 February 2019.

  • The Study China Programme

    The Study China Programme offers you an opportunity to experience Chinese life, culture, language and business. The three week programme involves interacting with Chinese students, academic staff, plus local families and businesses.

    You will complete an intensive Chinese Mandarin course designed to develop your written and spoken language skills. They welcome applications from students with any level of language experience, from absolute beginners to fluent speakers. The programme includes a curriculum of workshops, trips and excursions.

    Eligible applicants who have been accepted to participate in this summer school, can also receive up to £500 GoGlobal grant to cover some of the expenses. Please submit a GoGlobal Fund application by 22nd March 2019 to be considered.

  • Palermo Summer School

    Sheffield Hallam University is partnering with Universita degli studi di Palermo in Sicily to deliver a ten-day summer school for students on the FdA / BA (Hons) Working with Children Young People and Families, BA (Hons) / MA Social Work, BSc (Hons) Nursing (Learning Disability) and Social Work and BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work.

    You will have the opportunity to learn Italian in the mornings, and take part in social care related study activities and visits in the afternoons. There will also be a chance to experience the local cultural attractions and explore Palermo.

    The summer school will take place on 15 July - 26 July 2019. The total cost of participating in the summer school will be around £900.

    Eligible applicants who have been accepted to participate in this summer school, can also receive up to £500 GoGlobal grant to cover some of the travel and accommodation.

    You apply for this opportunity and the grant at the same time. Please submit a GoGlobal application by 25th January 2019 to be considered. If you are approved for participation, you will organise your own travel and accommodation following guidance provided by the University of Palermo.

    Please note that there are 12 places for students from Sheffield Hallam and that the summer school will not go ahead with fewer than 4 students.

  • The HWR Berlin Summer & Winter School

    The HWR Berlin Summer & Winter School has been offered annually since 2004. Every year more than 130 international students from over 25 countries join one of the various intensive course programmes in business, business law, economics, entrepreneurship, politics and German language.

  • San Jorge University

    San Jorge University in Zaragoza, Spain offers 15% discount to students on any course to join the Intensive Spanish summer courses in Aragon during the months of May, June and July. The courses are for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills and are in search of new certifications and experiences. These courses are aimed at students who have an A1, A2 and B1 level, according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR). They also offer a series of additional cultural activities, such as discovering Zaragoza by day and night, excursions to the Pyrenees or trips to Madrid and Barcelona.

  • Linköping University Summer Academy

    Linköping University Summer Academy offers a four-week credit-bearing programme in Linköping, Sweden. This experience will give you an opportunity to study abroad for one month. There are several courses to choose from and you will gain cultural insights together with other international students from all over the world. All courses are taught in English and are full-time.
