Practice Supervisor/Mentor Training and Support

Art Therapy Placement Supervisors/Mentors - Pre-Placement Training

We offering pre-placement training for Art Therapy Supervisors/Mentors which cover topics including:

  • a brief overview of the students' university programme, including HCPC Standards
  • recap on assessment process that occurs on placement
  • how to access the placement information website for key information and contacts
  • the process to follow when a student is failing to progress

We plan for interactive sessions which, as always, will include time for a little reflective artmaking.

The next pre-placement training session will take place on Wednesday 27 March 2024, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.  The training will be delivered over MS Teams - please contact Paula Rolston on p.rolston@shu.ac.uk or Caroline Turner on Caroline.Turner@shu.ac.uk for information on joining this training session.

Placement Supervisor/Mentor Updates

The following Core areas must be included in all Placement Supervisor/Mentor updates:

  • Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body standards
  • Overview of the students' university programme
  • Assessment process that occurs in practice
  • Process to follow when a student is failing to progress
  • How to access placement information websites for key information and SHU contacts
  • How to access placement information websites for key information about support available to Placement Supervisors/Mentors in their role in supporting the students
  • Where SHU placement learning policies are housed on the SHU placement learning websites
  • Processes for escalation of concerns, and the essential need for the placement provider to communicate with the university about any incidents or accidents or concerns
