Health, wellbeing and welfare

Healthy Hallam, Healthy Future is the University's wellbeing programme which has been developed to empower our staff and students to look after themselves and support others. Our aim is to enable everybody in the University to realise their full potential and contribute to making our University a great place to study, work and research.

Your health, wellbeing and welfare are important to us, particularly during this current period and we are committed to doing everything we can to support our staff. 

We provide access to the following benefits:

Employee Assistance Programme

An extensive support network through the Employee Assistance Programme, offering expert advice and guidance 24/7 covering a wide range of issues including life support and counselling, legal information, bereavement assistance, medical information and CBT online resources. 

Wellbeing

A range of wellbeing courses and support including Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health First Aid, Mindfulness, one-to-one lifestyle consultations. 

SHU Wellness

A free annual health and fitness screening through our SHU Wellness service which also provides workshops and additional support. Services are also available for family and friends. 

Cycle to Work

A generous cycle to work scheme where staff can save between 25 to 39% on bikes and accessories up to a value of £1000 or your monthly gross salary, whichever is the highest. 

Discounted Physiotherapy

A physiotherapy clinic at reduced rates for staff. 

Westfield Healthcare Plan

A discounted health cash plan through Westfield which can provide money back, including for dental and optical costs. For more information visit the website.

Universities and Colleges Healthcare Scheme 

A discounted healthcare scheme through the Universities and Colleges Healthcare Scheme which can provide prompt access to medical treatment. 

Fitness

Discounted on-site gyms and sports facilities.

Counselling

We also recognise that you may need support on personal issues. As such, you can access a number of sessions with our Counselling Service and also use our Multifaith Chaplaincy.
