Your career and development

We are committed to supporting you through your career at Sheffield Hallam and provide high quality learning and development opportunities for all staff. We offer a wide variety of programs to enable you to carry out your role, develop your personal effectiveness and wellbeing, develop leadership and management skills and support your career progression. 

Corporate induction

You will receive a structured corporate induction programme as you join the University to help welcome you to Sheffield Hallam and provide you with the information you need to start your employment with us. This is followed by a local induction facilitated by your line manager and colleagues to embed you into your new role and team.

Performance and development review

You will receive an annual performance and development review, to help identify your career aspirations and structure your individual development plan.

Training and development

You will have access to a range of training and development courses and programmes including self-directed e-learning courses.

Coaching and mentoring

All staff will have the opportunity for coaching and mentoring to support your leadership, personal and professional development.

Job opportunities

We offer a range of diverse job opportunities including secondments, promotion and progression, giving you flexibility in choosing a career path to suit your changing interests and ambitions.

Professional and personal development

You will have the opportunity to apply, subject to eligibility, to study part-time on Sheffield Hallam undergraduate and postgraduate courses, programmes or units without having to pay tuition fees via our Headstart scheme.

Academic development

Our dedicated Academic Development & Diversity (ADD) team work with Hallam staff to build confidence, capability and capacity to ensure all our students have a distinctive learning experience provided through an inclusive and applied curriculum.  

We provide a Continuous Professional Development Programme for academic staff which incorporates practical development opportunities such as attending Sheffield Hallam events, external conferences and access to a wide range of resources. 

Office 365

All Sheffield Hallam University staff have access to Office 365 which means you can have the latest version of the full Office productivity suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and more) available for offline and online use and for use on your own equipment.

Library

All staff enjoy free membership of the University library where they can access our vast collection of publications along with our e-library.
