Message of solidarity and support

Vice-Chancellor, Liz Mossop

Updated: 7 November 2025

I want to acknowledge the concerns some of you have reported recently about the rise of the far right and the impact this is having on your sense of safety and belonging.

It is deeply troubling to hear Hallam students - particularly those from minoritised groups - increasingly reporting feeling fearful as they go about their daily lives.

I wanted to reassure all of you that the University remains committed to a culture of inclusion and stands firmly against all forms of discrimination or harassment, including racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism.

I appreciate that recent events across the UK are creating a frightening environment for many in our community. It’s an important moment to reiterate that while we will each have our own views and thoughts on these events, Hallam is a community where we respect each other’s differences and treat one another with kindness, compassion and civility.

If you are feeling vulnerable and need support, it’s important to know that you are not alone.
