The pledge forms part of a seven-point commitment to students, designed to help prepare them for life after graduation throughout their university journey.
The unique internship guarantee is open to UK undergraduate Sheffield Hallam students who are not in work or further study 12 months after successfully completing their course. It is available for students starting from September 2026.
The new Career Promise has been launched during the annual confirmation and clearing period, as thousands of A-level students are receiving their results and making final decisions about university courses.
In the coming months the University is also launching Hallam Talent, a new on-campus student recruitment agency that will act as a dedicated employability hub, connecting students with part-time jobs, placement opportunities and graduate-level roles.
The promise also includes a focus on practical learning and building meaningful employer connections.
Professor Liz Mossop, Sheffield Hallam University Vice-Chancellor, said: “The labour market is changing rapidly, shaped by technological innovation, economic uncertainty and evolving employer expectations and universities must evolve too.
“Our Career Promise packages our extensive and tailored support into a single, coherent proposition. It signals to prospective students that we understand their priorities and share their ambitions.”
Sheffield Hallam is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse universities, with more than 32,000 students. Over 70 per cent of their entrants come from underrepresented backgrounds—including low-participation neighbourhoods, lower household incomes, mature learners, disabled students, and care leavers.

Adding a guaranteed internship is a significant step forward that positions Hallam ahead of others in the sector.”
In the most recent Graduate Outcomes Survey (2022/23), 95 per cent of Sheffield Hallam graduates were in work or further study within 15 months of after finishing their course.
The university is consistently ranked as a top modern UK institution for placing undergraduates directly into highly skilled, professional, and technical roles. In 2026, the University was shortlisted for career prospects in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards.
