The partnership will focus on advancing the use of secure, trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) in multilingual investigations, particularly in areas such as cybercrime, fraud, and open-source intelligence (OSINT), where accuracy and evidential integrity are critical.

Guildhawk GAI Labs is the research and development arm of Guildhawk, combining industry expertise with academic collaboration at Sheffield Hallam University to develop AI technologies for use in regulated and high-risk environments.

Dr Chris Roast, Associate Professor, School of Computing and Digital Technologies, said: “Sheffield Hallam University are excited to be supporting Guildhawk in this next step in their journey towards providing trustworthy multilingual AI services. Guildhawk and Sheffield Hallam have continued to benefit from a close working relationship enabling the exchange of skills and expertise. This new partnership provides a wonderful opportunity to further strengthen our innovation, knowledge exchange, and skills development in Cyber Security, fraud protection, and safety sectors.”

The new collaboration draws directly on outcomes from two Innovate UK-supported KTPs between Sheffield Hallam University and Guildhawk, which have focused on advancing secure, multilingual AI systems.

These KTPs have already delivered significant results, including:

  • The development of GAI Translate, a secure AI-powered multilingual translation platform designed for regulated industries

  • Research into advanced multilingual data labelling methods, aimed at improving the reliability and performance of machine learning models

These collaborations have been recognised nationally, with the Sheffield Hallam–Guildhawk KTPs named among Innovate UK’s top 50 knowledge transfer partnerships, highlighting their impact on AI innovation and real-world application.

The Coalition of Cyber Investigators brings together experienced practitioners in cybercrime investigations, digital forensics and intelligence analysis, with a focus on addressing emerging challenges in areas such as evidential standards, process integrity, and the use of AI in investigative workflows.

Through this new partnership, Guildhawk GAI Labs will work with the Coalition to apply research developed through its collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University to real-world investigative contexts.

This includes advancing technologies designed to support:

  • Multilingual analysis of digital evidence and intelligence

  • Greater accuracy and contextual understanding in AI-driven translation

  • Improved auditability and defensibility of AI outputs in evidential settings

  • The safe and effective use of AI in cross-border investigations

The partnership illustrates how applied research and industry collaboration can support the development of AI technologies that address complex, real-world challenges.

Sheffield Hallam University has a long history of working with industry through KTPs, enabling organisations to access academic expertise while translating research into practical tools and services.

By supporting the development of secure, multilingual AI systems, the University’s work with Guildhawk contributes to broader efforts to improve trust, transparency, and effectiveness in the use of AI across sectors including law, finance, public safety and international business.
