Aaron Moore a third-year sport development with coaching student, received his award from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at a special event held at St James Palace to mark the 90th anniversary of the Sport and Recreation Alliance.

Aaron has been involved in the sport of weightlifting since his early teens and first began working as a Volunteer Technical Official for British Weightlifting in 2022, supporting the running of national competitions. In June 2023, he became an Assistant Coach at Mettle, where he worked with athletes of all levels to improve their technique and strength before becoming Director of Competitions in December 2023.

In 2023, he also took on the role of Head of Weightlifting at Sheffield Hallam University Weightlifting Club, leading training programs and developing the sport.

Aaron said: “I am grateful to receive this award from the Sport and Recreational Alliance as Young Sports Official of the Year. I am giving back to the sport what it has given to me, and I am very happy to know that the things I’m doing are noticed and appreciated. I enjoy officiating with British Weightlifting and Mettle and supporting the sport in general.”

Dave Hembrough, lead strength and conditioning coach in Sheffield Hallam’s School of Sport and Physical Activity, said: “Aaron is a shining example of what’s possible for a student at Sheffield Hallam to achieve through hard work, commitment and positive contribution alongside their degree programme. He thoroughly deserves this award and will go on to impact more lives as a coach and an official.”
